Woodrow "Woodie" Safrit graduated from A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, NC, where he was a two-sport athlete. He was selected to All-Conference in both football and baseball his senior year. His talent did not go unnoticed as he received an athletic scholarship to play football at Western Carolina University. After one semester, Safrit transferred to Chowan College in the spring of 1962, where he found the small college atmosphere much more to his liking. Over the next two years, he enjoyed success in the classroom and on the football field. He lettered both seasons as an outstanding punter while also playing offensive and defensive end.

After graduating from Chowan College in the Spring of 1964, Safrit entered Frederick College where he continued to excel in academics and athletics. A two year letterman, Safrit utilized his natural ability and strong right leg to become an intricate part of Frederick's very successful football program. Safrit graduated with a B.S degree and set his sights on his next objective, to play professional football.

Armed with valuable knowledge gained over his collegiate career, Safrit signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars who were a member of the Southern Professional League. In his only season with the Jaguars, he led the League in punting which was a step in attaining his next goal.

The following season he played for the Hartford Charter Oaks of the Continental Football League. Safrit was second in this league in punting. He finally realized his dream playing for the San Francisco 49’ers and Detroit Lions.

After his football career, Safrit began doing real-estate and became a real-estate broker and developed his own business. The Woodrow Safrit Reality Company has grown into a large and profitable business for his family. It is one of the largest real-estate companies in America.

Safrit  and his wife. Brooks, now resides in Myrtle Beach, SC and also has a home in Georgia. The couple has two daughters, Heather and Melissa, who both went to the University of Georgia.
