Ashley Winslow Miller graduated from Camden County High School in 1999 where she was a three sport student athlete, playing volleyball, basketball and softball all four years of high school. Ashley decided she wanted to play at the collegiate level and decided to further her education while playing volleyball and basketball at then-Chowan College, now Chowan University.
The two-sport star posted big numbers both on the volleyball court and basketball court. She played in 115 career matches for the then Braves, tallying 219 career blocks. Her 160 career solo blocks still ranks her at the program’s all-time leader. The middle blocker tallied 859 career kills, ranking her 6th in the program’s all-time history. Once she was done with volleyball season, she donned a basketball uniform for the then-Braves where she scored 993 career points. She averaged 14.0 points an outing, which ranks her 3rd in program history for scoring average. She hauled in 715 total rebounds over three seasons playing basketball and hit shots at a .492 clip. During her junior and senior years, Ashley would earn All-USA South honors including the women’s basketball program’s first
ever First Team selection.
“Ashley was one of the few constants on the court during her four years with Chowan,” said friend and teammate Megan Brenegan Dailege. “She was someone we all turned to for guidance, strength, and motivation both on and off the court. She made all of us around her better and I am proud to call her a teammate and lifelong friend.”
After graduating from Chowan in 2003 with a BS in Physical Education, Ashley went back to her hometown and started teaching and coaching at Camden County High School. After spending four years there, she moved to Blacksburg, Virginia, with her husband who was in medical school at Virginia Tech. Ashley taught and coached basketball while living there before moving closer to home. After teaching in Suffolk, Virginia and Elizabeth City, North Carolina she became a stay at home mom to daughters Bailey and Tenley. Once Ashley and her family moved back to Camden County, she decided to get back into teaching and coaching. She has now been teaching for 15 years and coaching volleyball at Camden County High School, where she has led her team to back to back regional championships, and back to back state runner ups. Once her high school season is over, she coaches her oldest daughter, Bailey, in club volleyball and her youngest daughter, Tenley, plays club volleyball as well. She has coached several all-state players while at Camden and has former players that went on to play all collegiate divisions of the sport.
Ashley resides in Camden County with her husband, Dr. Jared Miller and they have two beautiful daughters, Bailey and Tenley.
