Marjorie Fleet Snead attended Chowan College from 1965-1967. She was a standout basketball and volleyball player while at Chowan. Off the court, she was involved in the Student Government Association as the social chairman and was also the President of the Women’s Recreation Association. In addition, she was elected as one of the ten outstanding sophomores. In 1967, Snead was inducted into the Order of the Silver Feather for her service to Chowan and the local community.
After Chowan, Snead went on to receive her Bachelor’s in Health and Physical Education from Radford College (now Radford University). She spent two years teaching ninth grade and coaching the varsity girls basketball team at Brevard High School in Brevard, North Carolina. In 1986 she earned her Master’s in Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education from Lynchburg College. Snead then taught elementary education at Amherst Elementary School for three years.
She now resides in Amherst, Virginia where she raises her four children.
