Dr. Scott Colclough spent two stints at Chowan during his storied education and coaching career. The Durham, N.C. native attended Campbell University where he received a B.S. in Physical Education. He spent two years earning his MAE from East Carolina University as a Graduate Teaching Assistant before accepting his first teaching job at South Granville High School in Creedmoor. Colclough spent five years building his resume in teaching and coaching football, basketball, and track and field before being hired on Chowan, then a junior college, in 1979.Â
His first stint at Chowan saw him serve as a Head Resident Director of Parker Hall and the defensive line coach for the football program. Colclough spent three happy years at Chowan, meeting coaches and staff that helped guide him along in the collegiate athletic realm. He left Chowan for UNC-Pembroke to teach and coach and began working on his PhD at Middle Tennessee State University. Following completion of his terminal degree, Colclough accepted a faculty position at North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro.Â
In 1992 Colclough returned to Chowan to help the junior college transition from two year to four year status. Colclough spent six years assisting the education department to gain licensure status. Colclough guided students, coaches, faculty, and staff over those six years through a successful transition to four year college status and became the favored professor of many loving students. He served as a mentor to many while at Chowan and is known to have laid the foundation for the SSPE department at Chowan as a four year institution.Â
Colclough left Chowan in 1998 to take a position at Middle Tennessee State University. He served as the assistant chair for two years, worked as the GTA coordinator for five years, returned as assistant chair for four years, and was the department chairperson for two years. In 2015 he was inducted into the Employee Hall of Fame and spent the last seven years of his tenure at MTSU as the Associate Dean of the Department of Health and Human Performance Department. He was granted Faculty Emeritus in his final year of work prior to retirement.Â
Colclough currently resides in Murfreesboro, Tenn.Â
