Wayne Browning, a native of Plymouth, was a two-sport star at Chowan in 1950-51, lettering in both football and baseball. From the Murfreesboro campus, his football skills earned him a full scholarship at the University of Richmond.
“Chowan taught Wayne the three “R’s,” said A. Jackson Mason, who inducted his friend into the Hall of Fame, “reading, writing and the road to Richmond.”

“‘I accept’ are the three syllables I know best,” quipped Browning as he accepted his copy of the permanent plaque. “But seriously, I would recommend the small college life to anyone and there’s a great one right here in Murfreesboro. I’m very proud to say that I attended Chowan College.”

Browning and his wife, Mary, reside in Belle Haven, Virginia and own Bay View Waterfront Bed & Breakfast, where they have lived for 61 years. They are the parents of five children and have several grandchildren. Both Browning and his wife are active in their church and enjoy family, friends, golf, bridge and guests.
