Wayne Yates learned early in life the values of family and church which have served as cornerstones for his successful and satisfying life. Using the examples set by his parents, Yates developed a strong commitment to setting an example himself.
A native of Apex, NC, Yates attended Apex High School where he was an outstanding two-sport athlete. He was selected as the only athlete from a I-A high school to play in the East-West All Star Basketball game in Greensboro, NC his senior season. A versatile All-State selection in basketball, he also used his athletic skills on the baseball diamond where he helped lead his team with his quickness and strong fundamentals.
After attending Baylor University for a year, Yates transferred to Chowan College in 1959, where he became a solid student athlete. A two-sport letterman, Yates, who was affectionately called “Roadrunner,” was selected to the All-Conference Basketball team for two consecutive years. Blending his academics with his athletic responsiblities, he was elected president of the Student Government his sophmore year.
After graduating from Chowan with an Associates degree in Graphic Communications, Yates returned home where be began a career with Monsanto. In 1983 His company transferred him and his family to Pensacola, FL. In September of 1995 he retired after 33 years.
Over the years Yates has continued to build upn his values by being an active member in the community. His love for sports never faded, as when he was 50, he entered a senior softball league, in which he went to the Senior Softball World Series in Detriot, Michigan in 1992.
Yates and his family now reside in Pensacola, FL.
