Clyde "C.E." Alligood was born on February 15, 1930 in Beaufort County, NC. He was raised by his parents with one brother and three sisters with whom he spent much of his time working on the family’s tobacco farm. He attended Washington Public Schools and graduated from Washington High School in 1949. Upon his graduation, C.E. joined the US Army and spent three years serving our country in Korea.

In 1952 he enrolled at Chowan College, where his brother, Bobby Alligood was already attending. They played together on the Braves baseball team. Here they both enjoyed some great victories together on the ball field, and learned valuable lessons through some tough losses.  C.E. played on the 1953 and 1954 baseball teams at Chowan and was a successful pitcher.

In 1955, C.E. met his wife, Margie Pritchard at Chowan College and got married in May later that year. They both left that year in order to further their academics at Pfeiffer College studying Biology and Physical Education.

He graduated from Pfeiffer in 1957 and began an internship with the Wiscassett Memorial YMCA. C.E. continued his love of baseball and other sports through his sons Mike and Steve and enjoyed a 30-year career “raising up” innumerable other young boys and girls, investing his life, time and energy in to the families of Stanly County.

C.E. was deeply committed to the First Baptist Church of Albemarle, where he served several terms as a deacon, teaching the young kids Sunday school classes and served on various church committees over the 40 years he lived in Albemarle.

In his spare time he enjoyed camping with his family and a group of other families. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his boys and close friends. With all the hours he spent at the “Y” in his career, C.E. had a clear understanding of what it meant to lead a well-balanced life. C.E. passed away in 1998.
