Hall of Fame
Alyson Barnes Faulconer was inducted into the Chowan University “Jim Garrison” Hall of Fame after two successful seasons on the court and in the classroom at Chowan from 1983-1985. Faulconer came to Chowan after graduating from Lumberton High School in Lumberton, North Carolina to play volleyball for legendary junior college coach, Janet Collins. As a Chowan College Presidential Scholarship recipient, Faulconer experienced great success in both the academic and athletic arenas.
Faulconer was a two-year starter and captain under Collins where she helped to solidify Chowan’s junior college volleyball prowess. After turning in a stellar sophomore season, Faulconer was named All Region X, All Region X Tournament Team, and the team’s MVP. Faulconer excelled in the classroom and earned NJCAA Academic All-American honors in her final season wearing the Chowan Blue and White. Her success in the classroom and on the court continued at East Carolina University where she was a two-year starter on the 1985 and 1986 teams. She was ECU’s top hitter for two seasons and was 1 of only 29 players named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s Scholar Athlete Team in 1986. After receiving her B.S. from ECU in Business Administration, Faulconer stayed with ECU as a graduate assistant volleyball coach where she earned her M.S. in Business Administration in 1988.
Faulconer has worked in the commercial banking industry for 22 years. She has worked with ‘The Little Bank, Inc.’ as the Senior Vice President and Commercial Banking Manager. Faulconer is highly involved in her local community through various civic groups and organizations. She has served on various boards and committees for more than 20 years for the United Way of Pitt County and is a member of the Greenville Jaycees. In 1994 and 1995 she received the Officer of the Year Award and President’s Award respectively. She is active in her church, Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church in Greenville. Since 1987 she has served in various roles including Children’s Sunday School Teacher and Administrative Council. In 2008 and 2009 she volunteered as the Head Volleyball Coach at St. Peter’s Catholic School where she earned a conference championship and had a combined record of 20-7.
Faulconer currently resides in Greenville, North Carolina with her husband, Michie, and two daughters, Maddy and Cameron.
