Formerly known as KJ, Kara Jackson graduated from then-Chowan College in 2006 with a B.S. in Physical Education. While attending Chowan "KJ" was a part of the women's basketball program. In her 4 years she provided a spark at both ends of the floor as the program's all-time leader in assists (447) and steals (264). In addition, Jackson still ranks sixth in Chowan's Division III history with 820 career points. Jackson also ranks third in career 3-point field goals made (96) and sixth in field goals made (289). As a then-Brave she helped guide Chowan Women's Basketball to 66 career wins, tied for the most in Division III history. During the 2003-04 season, Jackson and company clinched the USA South Regular Season title and finished as the USA South Conference Tournament Runner-Up.
Immediately following college Jackson, a product of Norfolk Public Schools, decided to return to NPS as a long-term sub. A year later after receiving her teachers certification she began fulltime as the Health & PE teacher for Ghent School for the next 12 years. During her time teaching she received Teacher Of The Year in 2017. She also was the head coach for Maury High School (also her alma mater) junior varsity girls basketball team and assisted with the girls varsity team. In 2014, Jackson was offered her first college job as an assistant coach for Bryant & Stratton College Women's Basketball team in Virginia Beach. As Head Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at BSC, Coach K was the recruiting coordinator, led practices, coached games and headed individual workouts. Additionally the team was ranked as high as 7th nationally, conference tournament runners up, and held the best record in sports history at Bryant & Stratton College.
In 2018, Jackson started her own business known as Prep Camp Academy, where she personally trains elementary to college age students in basketball skill development. In 2019, Jackson accepted the assistant women's basketball coaching position at her alma mater, where she has served under Lenise Stallings.
Jackson resides in Virginia and is active in her church community, her hometown of Norfolk, and in the Chowan University Community.
