Faith Amore-Reed, a native of Hebron, Ohio, came to Chowan in the fall of 1990 to play volleyball under then coach, Janet Collins. At that time Chowan was still playing under junior college status and Amore-Reed was able to play under an athletic scholarship. Amore-Reed played two very successful junior college seasons under Coach Collins, helping the team to a 65-22 record in her first two seasons. They were crowned Carolina’s Junior College Conference Champions and finished the 1991 season as the #18th ranked team in the NJCAA. 

Amore-Reed played two seasons under four-year status in 1993 and 1994 while working towards her four-year degree. She served as a captain for both her junior and senior seasons. Amore-Reed was the team’s setter for four years, helping the then Braves to a 104-61 overall record during her four-year playing tenure. 

Amore-Reed graduated from Chowan in the spring of 1995 as the first student to receive a four-year degree in Health and Physical Education. A determined student, Amore-Reed earned President’s List honors with a final semester GPA of 3.7.

Amore-Reed went on to to receive her Master’s degree from Mary Grove College in Physical Education and then continued to further her education by obtaining her Adapted Physical Education Endorsement through Ohio State University.

Amore-Reed worked as a physical education teacher for McGuffey Elementary School in Newark, Ohio. Her work at McGuffey Elementary is well documented. She has written two articles for games and activities that integrate other subjects into her curriculum that have been published in The Great Activities Physical Education Journal. From there she went on to become an interant adapted physical education teacher in the Newark City School systems, which she has been a part of for more than 14 years. 

Amore-Reed is married to Steve Reed. Together they have four children. They reside in Newark, Ohio.
