Clarence E. Murphy attended Chowan College from 1964-1965. Murphy played quarterback for then head coach, Jim Garrison. Murphy led a Braves team that was ranked third in the nation the only year he was there.
Murphy played two years for the Braves and went to fight for his county in 1966 in Vietnam. After the war Clarence became a third degree Mason. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Chowan Braves Club for three years.
Murphy now works for a chemical company in Altavista, Virginia as the Maintenance Foreman.
