Chowan University Athletics

J.M Jenkins, a native of Murfreesboro, was an educator for 40 years. For 35 of those years, Jenkins served in Hertford County, where he was a teacher, school principal and school superintendent.

Jenkins attended Chowan College from 1933 to 1935 and was center on the college’s first football team. Jenkins Center on Chowan University’s campus is named in his honor. 

Jenkins passed away in June of 2012.
