Freddie Davis came to Chowan in the fall of 1979. He enjoyed two seasons under then head baseball coach, Jerry Hawkins in 1980 and 1981.
During his two year stint with the Braves, Davis started in center field. His sophomore season, Davis was named Most Valuable Player after leading the team in batting average, RBI’s hits and breaking the schools homerun record by hitting 17 in a single season. Davis was also named All-Conference during his tenure at Chowan.
While at Chowan, Davis was also awarded Who’s Who Among American College Students and served as President of the Phi Theta Kappa and Monogram clubs.
Upon graduation in 1981, Davis signed a full scholarship to play baseball at Appalachian State University. Davis also had great success at ASU and was invited to try out for the first US Olympic baseball team.
At the conclusion of his career at ASU, Mr. Davis was offered a contract to play professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs. He chose the business world instead and became CEO and President of Appalachian Enterprises, a company that specializes in furniture transportation, brokerage and import.
Davis is married to Teresa Powell Davis. They have two daughters, Tiffany and Terra. The Davis family resides in Hudson, NC Mr. Davis is active in both Hawks Haven at Chowan as well as the Yosef Club at ASU.Â
