David Witten journeyed to the small northeastern North Carolina town of Murfreesboro via Durham, North Carolina in the fall of 1964 to suit up for legendary Chowan football coach Jim Garrison. During his two-year stay in Murfreesboro, David was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in the 1964 season and was a co-captain of the 1965 squad.

After his two years wearing the blue and white, Witten traded in his football pads for an Army uniform, spending the next seven years as a member of the Army National Guard, where he served one year of active duty.

After his military duty was over, David furthered his education by attending Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, Maryland.

Witten has shown he still bleeds Chowan blue as he was named Chowan College Alumni of the Year in 2001. He has also served on the Advisory Board for Chowan.

The successful Georgia man became the CEO of Food Management Group and the owner of Medical Billing Practice.

In his spare time, David enjoys restoring cars and antique boats. Two cars in his collection include a 1943 Mack Fire Truck, which was driven in the 1992 Atlanta Braves parade, and a 1994 Dodge Viper, which he drove at the Indianapolis Speedway in May of 1996.

Dave Witten is married to Brenda Pope Witten. The two have been married for more than 35 years and they reside in Alphretta, Georgia
