Clif Collins was born and raised in Emporia, Virginia. He received his BA from the University of Richmond and his MA from East Carolina.  Collins also spent time at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his B.D.

Collins is no stranger to Chowan athletics. For over 30 years, the voice you heard over the PA system at many football, basketball, and volleyball games was most likely his. Collins was hired in 1965 and for six years served as the head resident director. Collins served as Dean of Men, Intramural Director, Head Registrar, and Director of Housing and Counseling before being named Director of Financial Aid in 1971.

Collins retired in June of 2001 from his position as Director of Financial Aid. During his 36 years, Cliff was very active in the athletic department, even marrying Head Volleyball Coach Janet Harwood, now Janet Collins. Collins took the Head Coach of Cross Country position in 1973 and held that until 1975. He is still very active in the Chowan Athletic family.

Collins was very active in the Murfreesboro community as well. He was Charter Member of the Murfreesboro Volunteer Rescue Squad and served as President, Secretary, and Treasurer during his stay. Collins was a member of the Murfreesboro Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, and Vacation Bible Study teacher.

Collins passed away in June of 2023.
