Leslie Daniel “Danny” Morgan was inducted into the Chowan University “Jim Garrison” Athletics Hall of Fame after having played two solid years on the Chowan golf team. The Franklin, Virginia native graduated from Franklin High School where he was a two sport standout in football and basketball. Morgan came to Chowan in 1966 and became an immediate impact player for the golf team. In his first season, he helped guide them to Miami, Florida and the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament. The team finished in 7th place. The following year Morgan helped to guide the team back to the NJCAA National Tournament, this time in Roswell, New Mexico, where the team bested their 7th place finish with a 6th place team finish.
Morgan was the top golfer on the team during that 1968 season. His golf accolades that season include Medalist in the Region X Conference Tournament and Medalist in the District Tournament.
After graduating from Chowan in 1968, Morgan attended Virginia Wesleyan College. He graduated from VWC with a B.A. in History and Political Science.
Morgan’s love for golf has never faded; in fact, his current profession keeps him near the fairways on a daily basis. He is the head golf professional at Cypress Cove Country Club in Franklin, Virginia. He is active in several local youth golf development leagues, including the YMCA Summer Golf Camp, and the Boys and Girls Club Summer Golf Camp and he established the Junior Golf Program in Franklin. Morgan regularly works with local high school players from Franklin High School, Southampton High School, and Southampton Academy. He is a seven-time Cypress Cove Country Club Men’s Club Champion.
Danny Morgan is marriedwith two sons and resides in Franklin, Virginia.
