Fred Banks was a standout football and baseball player at Chowan College from 1980-1982. Banks was most recognized as a football player where he played both quarterback and wide receiver under then head coach, Jim Garrison. In his sophmore season, Banks helped the Braves earn an 8th place national junior college ranking. The team was crowned East Bowl Champions with a 28-14 win over Mississippi Junior Collge.
Banks earned an athletic scholarship to play football for Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where he went on to continue his football excellence. He became the first-ever football player at Liberty to be drafted by the National Football League when the Cleveland Browns picked him in the 8th round.
All together Banks played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Browns, Dolphins, and Bears.
Banks currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia and works for a roofing company. He still enjoys football in his leisure time. He has one son, Fred Jr., and one daughter, Morgan.Â
