Jack Goldberg began his association with Chowan College nearly 40 years ago. A native of Newport News Va., he graduated from Ferguson High School then continued his education at Thomas Nelson Community College and Tidewater School of Broadcasting.   He came to Murfreesboro in 1973 and began his career as an announcer at WWDR. There, he became the Sports Director and broadcast play- by-play for Murfreesboro High School football. He gave daily sports reports on local and college athletic programs.

His relationship with Chowan grew through his coverage of the Braves athletic programs. He produced a weekly 30 minute program titled Chowan Sports In Perspective, consisting of interviews with the coaches and athletes. He became the "Voice of the Braves"by broadcasting their football and men's basketball games for many years.  In 1989 he joined Chowan as Sports Information Director, assistant to Athletic Director, director of the Hawks Athletic Center and Executive Secretary of the Braves Club. The following year he became coach of the softball team.  As coach, he helped transition the team from junior college status to four year NCAA DIII status.   Goldberg was named Region 10 Coach of the Year in their final year of Junior College.  The Braves averaged over 25 wins a season while maintaining the highest GPA of all programs for five consecutive years. The 1995 squad established a new school winning percentage record with 36-9 wins that still stands today.  Goldberg coached several All-Region and All-American players over his tenure. Five of his former players are members of the "Jim Garrison"CU Sports Hall of Fame, in which he served as the inductor for each of them for their respective induction years.

After leaving Chowan Goldberg worked for Roanoke Rapids Graded School District at Chaloner Middle School where he coached softball.  The Lady Yellow Jackets won conference championships every year for 14 years with an overall conference record of 108 and 0.  He coached in the Roanoke Rapids Babe Ruth Softball league for many years.

Now retired, Jack and his wife Myrna live in Roanoke Rapids.  They have two grown children, Ben and Emily.
