Stanley “Stan” Eugene Dixon, Jr. is no stranger to Chowan’s campus having been a standout student-athlete during the mid-70’s and now as a member of the Chowan University Board of Trustees. Dixon's 'mark' on campus can be seen at every entrance, on every corner, and on every playing field with signage created in his local business, “Stitch Count.” Dixon has given countless hours to ensure the athletic department’s success from capital fund raising projects such as the proposed Football Center to serving as the Chair Person for the Athletics Committee on the Board of Trustees.
Dixon grew up in this small college town, attended Murfreesboro Graded School, Murfreesboro Middle School, and graduated from Murfreesboro High School. Stan was an outstanding high school athlete, excelling in baseball, basketball, and football. He was All-Conference and All-Region in both baseball and football. His athletic prowess caught the eye of another town local, the legendary Coach Jim Garrison. Garrison handpicked Dixon to start for him on the Chowan offensive line. After all, he knew exactly what kind of athlete he was getting after having personally coached him on the little league diamond from a young age. Dixon enjoyed two successful seasons at Chowan under Garrison and graduated with an A.S. in Business Administration.
Dixon went to work in 1977 at Union Camp and was later employed with Revelle Agri Products as a Construction Foreman. In 1979, he purchased his first dry cleaning business in Ahoskie and in 1988 established “Stitch Count”, an embroidery business. Dixon grew his business to include trophy and engraving services, screen printing, and vinyl graphics. In 2004, he merged Town N’ College Cleaners and Winton Dry Cleaners with his first dry cleaning business in Ahoskie.
Dixon is active in his local community in several factions. He served as a member of the Ahoskie Jaycees from 1979 to 1997 and held every office with the exception of Treasurer. He served as the President for two terms and was named one of the top five Jaycee President’s in the State of North Carolina. He was awarded lifetime membership rights to the Ahoskie Jaycees. He also served on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Dry Cleaning and Laundry Association for eight years. He has served terms on the Planning and Adjustment Boards for the Town of Ahoskie and was an integral leader in the establishment of the Ahoskie Heritage Days.
Dixon served one term on the Chowan University Board of Visitors and is currently serving on the Chowan University Board of Trustees. He is the Chair Person of the Athletics Committee (BOT) and is a member of the Chowan University Executive Trustee Board.
