Mark Brown is an accomplished risk management professional and proud graduate of Chowan University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science with a minor in Psychology, graduating magna cum laude in 2011. Mark came to Chowan in the fall of 2008 and quickly established himself as yet-another player from nearby Suffolk, Virginia who would make a name for himself on the basketball court. Other Suffolk notable Hawks include Hall of Fame Inductees Trayvon Lathan and Jaleel Nelson.Â
During his collegiate basketball career, Brown established himself as one of the program’s premier performers in the NCAA Division II era. He ranks 8th all-time in points scored (957), 8th in field goals made (339), 7th in three-point field goals made (115), 9th in free throws made (164), and 5th in rebounds (383). Over his career, Brown averaged 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while maintaining an impressive 71 percent free-throw shooting percentage. These statistics certainly demonstrate both consistency and leadership on the court during his time donning the CU blue and white.Â
While at Chowan, Mark served as a Presidential Ambassador, was an officer for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and was a member of the History Honor Society, Psychology Honor Society, and the Criminal Justice Honor Society.Â
Following his time at Chowan, Brown built a distinguished professional career in organizational risk strategy, property investment, and both domestic and international risk management. He has served in a senior leadership role with Amazon for more than a decade, overseeing key aspects of risk operations and safety initiatives.Â
Beyond his professional success, Brown is a devoted husband to his wife, Janay, and a proud father to their daughter, Morgan. He attributes his accomplishments to the values of hard work, faith, and family—principles that continue to guide his life and career. In his free time, Mark enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
