Mike Grant attended Chowan College from 1979-1980. Grant was an All-American football player under then Head Coach Jim Garrison. A team Captain, Grant led the team in tackles and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. He was known and feared on the field as a punishing tackler.
Grant continued his academic and athletic pursuits at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, where he continued to hold true to his name as a punishing tackler. He led the Pirates in tackles and was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player and for his efforts was named first team All-Southern Independent.
After an amazing college career, Grant set his sights on a professional career. He signed with the Memphis Showboats of the United States Football League (USFL) for the 1984-1985 season. During his time as a showboat, Grant served as the captain of the defensive unit and led the team in tackles.
Grant currently resides in North Charleston, South Carolina with his wife Marvetta. Mike is a boiler engineer at Westvaco of Charleston, a position he has held for over 10 years.
