Cartrina Williams Curry came to Chowan in 1988 from her hometown of Bradenton, Florida as a volleyball player, recruited by then-coach Janet Collins.  Curry excelled during her two-year stint at Chowan and left as one of the best players to have ever played in junior college volleyball history.

While under Coach Collins, Curry was named 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-Region X. During her sophomore year, she was the Region X Tournament MVP and voted Team Captain.  In that same year, the 1989 team made it to the NJCAA National Tournament in Miami, Florida where they placed 11th in the nation.

After leaving Chowan, Curry attended Mars Hill College where she continued her volleyball career and graduated with a B.A. degree in Psychology. After graduation, she married her college sweetheart, Felix Curry (former Mars Hill College Football Captain/3 year starter at Safety).  They have been married more than 20 years and have three handsome sons, C.J., Darius, and Justin. Family has always been very important to both Curry and her husband. She was a stay-at-home mom until their youngest son entered the eighth grade. During that time she took the opportunity to get her Master's Degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy State University (2003).  The Curry family lived in Georgia for more than 20 years but in 2013 they moved to Arkansas. The two older sons had been blessed with football scholarships to Oklahoma State University.

Curry was hired to work for Fort Smith Public Schools in Forth Smith, Arkansas, at Darby Jr. High School, where she became the head of the Special Education Department and an assistant volleyball coach.

Curry is an active member in the Church of Christ in Fort Smith.

"My two years at Chowan were more than I could have dreamed of athletically, academically and socially. I worked really hard in the classroom and on the court. I enjoyed every day I spent at Chowan," stated Curry on her time at Chowan.
