Mandy McCain Madden came to Chowan in 1992 to continue her education and play softball under then head coach, Jack Goldberg. Madden came to Chowan from Fairfield, Pennsylvania and Fairfield Area High School. At Fairfield, she was a two sport athlete playing both volleyball and softball. Although Madden attended high school in Pennsylvania, her family roots lie in Alabama where she was raised just outside of Birmingham.
Madden is the all time leader in wins for a pitcher in Chowan softball history. In her four seasons with the then Braves, Madden accumulated 58 career wins and just 12 losses. Her career ERA is an astounding 0.912. She averaged double digit wins every year she pitched while also garnering the team’s Most Valuable Pitcher award all four years she took the mound for Chowan.
In her four seasons with the program, Madden helped Chowan compile a 107-47 overall record. In 1995, Madden helped lead the team to a program high 36 wins in a single season, which still stands today for the softball program. In the same season, Madden amassed 16 season wins and just 3 losses. Â After the completion of the 1995 season, Maden earned the coveted Female Athlete of the Year Award.
While at Chowan, Madden studied Elementary Education and graduated with honors in 1996. Madden taught in the area for two years upon graduation before moving to Florida and closer to her family.
Now living in Lakeland, Florida, Madden is employed by Geico Insurance. Madden has three children, Kelly, Miguel and Briana. Madden is still active in the Lakeland area community with various recreational organizations.
