Wayne Daughtridge came to Chowan in the Fall of 1964 after graduation from Rocky Mount High School in his hometown of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Daughtridge played two seasons of football for the then Braves under legendary Hall of Fame Coach, Jim Garrison. Daughtridge played both sides of the ball for Garrison as a fullback and linebacker.

Just as he did on the field at Rocky Mount High School, Daughtridge shined on the field during his two year stint at Chowan. During the 1965 season, Daughtridge was named the team’s Most Valuable Player for his efforts on the gridiron.

Over his two seasons, he helped the Braves to an 8-11 record, including a 6-3 freshman year. His leadership abilities caught the attention of Garrison, who named him a captain in his sophomore season. Along with his athletic duties, he also was active in clubs and organizations during his two year stay at Chowan. Daughtridge served as a class officer in his second year.

Following graduation from Chowan, Daughtridge entered the United States Army. He served the country for three years, including tours in Vietnam. Daughtridge was stationed all over the country during his time in the Army.

In 1970, Daughtridge went home to Rocky Mount and had the privilege of working alongside of his father in his home building business, Daughtridge and Son Builders. After eight years with Daughtridge & Sons, he continued his construction trade at Modern Builders, INC. In 1990, Daughtridge formed his own construction business where he specialized in finish work.

For 18 years, Daughtridge ran a successful home building business in the greater Rocky Mount area. He retired from the business in 2008, but still dabbles in small home repairs and remodeling.

Wayne is a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount. His family has been a long time member of the church. He is the son of William and Lona Daughtridge and has two sons of his own, Adam and Clay. He also has a grandson, Mason.
