Jerry Holmes is an American football coach and former defensive back who began his collegiate football career at Chowan Junior College. He was a start cornerback at Chowan and earned his Associate's degree in Business Administration before transferring to West Virginia. He lettered for two years at West Virginia and earned his Bachelor’s degree.
Holmes played ten seasons in the National Football League, mainly for the New York Jets, but also with the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. He also played in the USFL for the New Jersey Generals and the Pittsburgh Maulers.
Holmes announced his retirement from pro football during a 1992 training camp.
He was the head coach for the Hampton University football team for the 2008 season.
