Hugh Vincent of Murfreesboro, North Carolina, is a native of Southampton County, Virginia. He graduated from North Carolina State University and served in the Army during the Korean War. For forty-seven years Vincent was an independent manufacturer's representative, developing dealer organizations for four manufacturers in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. In addition, Vincent owned and operated farms in North Carolina and Virginia. Hugh Vincent and his wife Janet are the parents of six children and grandparents of thirteen.

Vincent is the product of a strong Christian family. A member of Murfreesboro Baptist church for over fifty years, he has served as deacon, trustee and member of several committees. In 2006, Vincent received the NC Baptist Heritage Christian Service Award.

A devoted supporter of Chowan University, Vincent has served as chairman of the Board of Trustees, member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, chairman of the Trustees Nominations Committee, vice chairman of the Athletics Committee, and is a former member of the Board of Visitors. He is a founding member of the Chowan University Christian Service Association. Several of his children attended summer school classes at Chowan and two became alumni.

His passion for Chowan Athletics is evident through his support of the capital improvement projects for the Football and Baseball facilities. Vincent  has endowed four athletic scholarships: two in support of Men's Basketball, one in support of Football, and one in support of Baseball.

Vincent is a member of Murfreesboro Rotary Club and Murfreesboro Historical Association. He serves as site manager for the Vincent/Deale Blacksmith Shop in the historic district, where he practices the craft using his great-grandfather's collection of blacksmithing tools which he has donated to the shop. Vincent was instrumental in the acquisition and renovation of the Murfreesboro High School Building, which now houses the Jefcoat Museum. As a lifetime Boy Scout, Vincent headed the restoration of the historic Ted Deanes Boy Scout Building in Murfreesboro.

Vincent's hobbies include grandchildren, animals, growing ornamental plants, attending athletic events, and golfing. He enjoys spending time at the family's mountain home on Lake Lure, North Carolina.
