Box Score LINCOLN, PA- The Chowan University volleyball team earned their seventh consecutive win on Monday evening with a 3-0 CIAA Northern Division victory over The Lincoln University. The win moves the Hawks to 9-3 on the year and 5-0 in league play while the Lady Lions slide to 1-7 overall and 0-6 against CIAA competition.
Suraya Chase led all players in the contest with 11 kills, followed by
Nikira Fults who tallied 10 kills.
Cindy Ehrich notched 21 digs for the Blue and White while
Allison Smith collected 21 assists. The Hawks were powered by 39 kills as a team and committed 10 errors in the three-set match. Chowan defeated Lincoln 25-19 in the first set, toppled the Lady Lions 25-6 in the second set, and edged their opponent 25-20 in set three.
Jillian Lee and Ashante Price tallied six kills apiece for Lincoln and Kyra Orton totaled 17 digs over the course of the evening. The Lady Lions committed 21 errors throughout the competition, resulting in a negative hitting percentage (-.04).
Trailing 9-8 in the first set, the Hawks used a block from
Jordan Miller and Fults, a Lady Lion error, and a kill by Fults to take a 10-11 lead. Chowan never looked back from the shift in momentum and easily secured the 25-19 set victory.
The Hawks dominated the second set and held Lincoln to a mere six points in the 25-6 win. Holding a commanding 12-5 lead, Chowan rattled off 12 straight points off of
Brianna Smith's serves before clinching the 25-6 win with a kill by Fults.
The third set was more closely contested, but the Hawks survived a late rally by the Lady Lions and secured the 25-20 set win.
Chowan returns to action on September 25
th when they host Claflin University in the Helms Center. First serve is slated for 6:00pm.
