Hawks Battle Through Competitive Sets Against Golden Bears and Pioneers to Close Out Viking Classic

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Chowan University volleyball team wrapped up play at the Viking Classic on Saturday, competing in a pair of matches at the R.L. Vaughan Center. The Hawks opened the day with a five-set battle against Kutztown University,  taking the first two sets for a 2-0 lead before the Golden Bears rallied to win the final three sets to earn the 3-2 victory. Chowan then faced Glenville State in its final match of the tournament, with the Hawks battling throughout three competitive sets before the Pioneers secured a 3-0 victory.

Anna Holcombe and Brooke Hart each recorded a match-high four service aces against Kutztown, with Hart's performance marking a new career high. Andrea Krgovic also posted a match-high 34 assists in the five-set battle.

Against Glenville State, Alauna Wilson-Linn and Malyshia Bailey each recorded career high in service aces, with Wilson-Linn posting four and Bailey recording three.

Game One:

Jada Caruthers led the Hawks with 10 kills, two service aces, a block, and a dig. Rosa Lynn Collier added eight kills, two assists, and a block assist, while Wilson-Linn recorded seven kills, two service aces, two digs, and a block assist.

Alexa Fricker contributed six kills, two digs, and two service aces, while Holcombe anchored the defensive effort with a team-high 18 digs to go along with two kills.

Krgovic orchestrated the Chowan offense with 34 assists, adding three digs, one service ace, and a block assist.

Game Two:

Caruthers once again led the Hawks offensively, recording seven kills and a block. Collier added six kills and three digs, while Fricker finished with five kills, three assists, and three digs.

Krgovic posted 20 assists, four kills, three digs, three block assists, and two service aces to round out the Chowan attack.

UP NEXT

Chowan volleyball returns home to open Conference Carolinas play against the Barton Bulldogs on Wednesday, September 9. The match is set for 6:00 PM inside the Hawks Athletic Center as the Hawks make their first home debut.
