HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Chowan University volleyball team opened the 2026 season Friday at the Coker Cobra Classic, competing in a pair of non-conference matches at the DeLoach Center. The Hawks opened the day against Saint Leo, as the game came to a 3-0 decision, before battling host Coker in their second match of the day. Chowan would claim the third set after a commanding 25-12 set victory to force a fourth, as the match would ultimately end with a 3-1 final score in the Cobras favor.
Newcomer Andrea Krgovic and returning standout Anna Holcombe each turned in game-high performances against Saint Leo, while Jada Caruthers and Holcombe led the Hawks with game-high performances in the matchup with Coker.

Game One:
In the opening match against Saint Leo, Krgovic led all players with 17 assists while adding nine digs in her Chowan collegiate debut. Holcombe paced the Hawks defensively with a match-high 18 digs. Rosa Lynn Collier led Chowan offensively with eight kills, while Alauna Wilson-Linn added six kills and five digs. Madison Henderson and Caruthers each recorded three kills, with Caruthers also contributing a block. Alanna Verme finished with two kills and four digs, while Kennedy Mills also added four digs.
Game Two:
The Hawks found offensive rhythm against Coker, responding from the first two sets to produce a dominant performance in the third. Caruthers led all players with 11 kills while adding two assists and two digs. Holcombe continued to anchor the Hawks defensively, recording a match-high 23 digs and five service aces.
Krgovic posted a stellar performance with a team high 34 assists and 14 digs while adding three kills. Alexa Fricker ended the day with 10 kills and 10 digs while adding an assist. Verme also turned in a strong performance with 11 digs, nine kills, and three service aces. Brooke Hart contributed 16 digs, while Henderson and Collier each finished with six kills each.

The Hawks will close out play at the Coker Cobra Classic on Saturday, August 29, against Valdosta State University with the match set to start at 9:00 AM.
