Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, NC – The Chowan University baseball team moved to 1-16 after two tough losses to Mercyhurst University on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks dropped a 2-0 first game and Mercyhurst battled back to beat the Hawks 4-3 in the nightcap.
Game one was a pitcher's duel as both teams were kept off the scoreboard until the final inning of play. CU's
Bobby Mason started on the mound and kept the Lakers at bay for five innings. He struck out four batters and gave up a hit before being before relieved by
Will Gurganus. Gurganus retired the side in the top of the sixth inning but gave up three hits and two runs in the seventh inning.
Mercyhurst's Dan Altavilla silenced the Hawks offense after he allowed just three hits over seven innings for the complete game victory. Altavilla struck out 10 out of 24 batters faced.

Tanner Woods each collected hits in the game.
Evan Hart was just an out away from helping the Hawks to a nightcap win but the Lakers scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to steal a 4-3 win.
Chowan scored three runs through four innings for a 3-1 lead with Hart on the mound. The Lakers used two hits and an untimely error by Chowan to plate three runs and get a 4-3 lead with two outs in the seventh inning.
The Hawks were unable to recover any runs in their final at-bat in the seventh and took the 4-3 loss. Hart tossed the complete game and gave up seven hits and two earned runs. He struck out six Laker batters in 33 batters faced.
Jon Klein picked up the win on the mound for Mercyhurst and Tanner Delahoy pitched the final inning for the save.
Ryan Moore had a double and an RBI in game two while
John Hunter had an RBI single.
The Hawks will travel to USC-Aiken on Tuesday and Wednesday for a two-game series before returning home March 15-16
th to host Virginia State University in a four-game series.
