MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2025-2026 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week. For the week of April 1 – April 8,
Peyton Clay of the baseball team,
Nevaeh Higdon of the flag football team, and
Ava Mizell of the softball team , have been recognized for their standout performances over the past week of competition.
Peyton Clay recorded two home runs, and drove in five RBI against Southern Wesleyan University in the first game of the series on Friday, April 3. Clay's first home run came in the fourth inning, bringing in two runs, before he added another in the sixth to drive in three more. His performance helped the Hawks stay within two runs of the Warriors.
Nevaeh Higdon led the Hawks in matchups against Mount St. Mary's University, Wingate University, and University of Mount Olive. In the first game against the Mountaineers, Higdon threw for 311 yards, completed 25 passes, and accounted for two touchdowns. She also led the team defensively with five tackles and added an interception. Against Wingate, Higdon completed 24 passes and again led the team with eight tackles. She closed out the week by completing 19 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown, while adding a rushing touchdown. Defensively, she continued to set the tone, finishing with 13 total tackles, including 12 solo.
Ava Mizell delivered a strong week for the Hawks in games against Virginia State University and University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Against the Trojans, Mizell recorded a run, a hit, and an RBI while stealing three bases in one game. In the second contest, she added two runs, three hits, and three RBI, along with another stolen base. Mizell continued her production against UNC Pembroke, tallying a hit and a stolen base in game one before finishing game two with two runs, two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base that tied the program's single-season record(42).
