Four Home Runs Power Game One Effort as Hawks Fall to Warriors

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Southern Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon at Hawkins Field. The Hawks remained competitive in the opening game, battling back after a five-run first inning deficit, but ultimately fell 14-12. Chowan recorded four home runs in game one, highlighted by Peyton Clay's two-home run, five-RBI performance.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE 

Game One
Ahmaad Goldson led the Hawks with three runs scored, two hits, and an RBI. Goldson would record a home run in the second inning sending the ball out to center field. Peyton Clay added two hits, a game-high five RBI, and two home runs, sending each out to right and center field.

Derrick Davis and Bryson Ponsock each tallied three hits and scored a run, while Jordan Turner recorded two hits, one run, and two RBI. Collin Gifford contributed a run, a hit, and an RBI, with KJ Durand Jr. and Nick Reiss also crossing the plate.

Jacob Howard provided a late spark, entering as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth and hitting a home run to right field for the final run of the game.

Zach Williams started on the mound, pitching 3.0 innings. Kelton Taylor followed in relief, and Matthew Lovitt closed out the final 5.0 innings for the Hawks.

Game Two
Bryson Ponsock recorded two hits and an RBI to lead the offense. John McDonald, Terray Cherry, Derrick Wade, and Derrick Davis each added a hit, while Wade and McDonald scored the Hawks' two runs.

Goldson got the start on the mound, with Dawson Wiggins, Christopher Tankersley, Zackary Wilson, and David Tyndall all making relief appearances.
