Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Chowan University baseball team extended their win streak to eight straight on Sunday afternoon with a pair of wins over Elizabeth City State University. The Hawks improve to 9-18 on the year and 8-4 in CIAA play while the Vikings slip to 3-13 overall and 0-8 in the league. Chowan topped Elizabeth City State 4-1 in the first game before defeating the Vikings 6-1 in the nightcap.
The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third using a Viking error and
Blake Eure's sacrifice fly.
Evan Holton's RBI single in the sixth and another sacrifice fly from Eure in the seventh put Chowan ahead 4-0. The Vikings mustered one run in the home half of the seventh after a Hawk error before dropping game one 4-1.
Blake Leebrick paced the Hawks with two hits while Eure notched two RBI.
Stephen Hux went the distance on the mound for the Hawks and scattered five hits en-route to the win.
Chowan's offense remained silent until the top of the fourth in game two. RBI doubles by Holton,
Tanner Woods and
Evan Seymour along with
Josh Martin's sacrifice fly gave the Hawks a 4-0 lead. The Vikings answered with one run in their half of the frame but the Hawks tacked on two more runs in the fifth using RBI doubles from
John Hunter and Woods to pull away 6-1.
Woods led the effort for the Hawks at the plate in game two with a 3-4 outing and two RBI. Holton notched two hits in the victory.
Will Gurganus earned the win on the mound for Chowan. He scattered five hits over five innings of work against the Vikings.
Carter Siweck and
Austin McGhee both pitched one inning in-relief.
The Hawks travel to Mount Olive on March 25
th and 26
th. First pitch against the Trojans is slated for 6:00pm on the 25
th and 4:00pm on the 26
th.
