MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University baseball team opened a three-game series with Erskine College on Friday afternoon, falling with a final of 24-6. Just prior to the start of the game, the University honored Coach Jerry Hawkins in a field rededication that highlighted new renovations at the field named after him. Hawkins coached baseball at Chowan for more than 30 years, amassing 500 career wins. Friends and family gathered to memorialize his accomplishments and highlight his coaching career while at Chowan.

Chowan took an early lead in the game after posting five runs in their first at-bat. Erskine went on to outscore the Hawks 23-1 over the next eight innings. Chowan collected 13 hits in the game with five Hawks getting multiple hits in the game. Keith Durand, Jr. went 2-3 with two RBI while teammates Collin Gifford, Derrick Davis, Jordan Turner, and Jacob Ellenburg also collected two hits each in the game.
