Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, PA- The Chowan University volleyball team split a pair of nonconference matches on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks move to 20-6 on the year after Saturday's contests. Chowan earned a 3-0 win over Cheyney before suffering a 3-2 setback to Shippensburg in the second match of the day.
Chowan powered past Cheyney University in three straight matches. They made quick work of the Wolves and used 42 team kills to earn the win.
Jordan Miller paced the Hawks with eight kills while
Suraya Chase added seven to help the cause.
Allison Smith notched 31 assists while
Brianna Smith hauled in 13 digs.
Cindy Ehrich grabbed 11 digs while Miller tallied 10 of her own.
Breanna Joseph led all players in the contest with 10 kills and Kennetha Wallace totaled 10 assists. Vishea Campbell, Breanna Joseph and Wallace all tallied double digit digs in the setback.
Chowan topped Cheyey 25-10 in the first set, held the Wolves to a mere seven points in the second set (25-7) and earned a 25-13 victory in the third and final set.
The Hawks dropped a five set thriller in the nightcap. Chowan totaled 50 team kills in the setback. Miller paced the Hawks with 14 kills while
Melanie Chaussee and Chase added 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
Ehrich hauled in a team high 25 digs while
Allison Smith,
Brianna Smith,
Brittany Tschida and Miller each grabbed double digit digs for the Hawks.
Taylor Gottshall and Annie Goerl each had 15 kills for Shippensburg. Maura Nolan notched 47 assists while Laura Plank totaled a match-high 29 digs.
The Hawks edged the Raiders 25-23 in the first set but were unable to hold on to the momentum in the second. After earning a 25-16 win over Chowan in the second set, Shippensburg fell to the Hawks 25-20 in set three. The Raiders grabbed a 25-16 win in the fourth set and edged Chowan 16-14 in the final set to earn the victory.
The Hawks return to action on October 28
th when they host the University of Mount Olive. First serve is slated for 6:00pm in the Helms Center.
