Multiple Career Highs Highlight Hawks’ Five-Set Battle Against Bobcats

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Chowan University volleyball team pushed Lees-McRae College to five sets on Friday evening in Conference Carolinas action at Williams Gymnasium.

The Hawks opened the match with a back-and-forth first set, using a late push to edge the Bobcats, 26-24. Lees-McRae responded by taking the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-22, to gain a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Facing a must-win fourth set, Chowan responded with its strongest offensive performance of the night. The Hawks recorded 15 team kills on their way to a commanding 25-15 victory, forcing a fifth set.

Chowan continued to battle in the deciding frame, but Lees-McRae pulled ahead to secure the set, 15-10, and the match, 3-2.

Madison Henderson turned in a career performance at the net for the Hawks. The sophomore middle blocker recorded a career-high 12 blocks while adding a season-high 12 kills. Alexa Fricker led the Chowan offense with 15 kills and a career-high 12 digs, while Andrea Krgovic matched her career-high with 45 assists. Jada Caruthers would also tie her career-high 11 kills.

Fricker led the Hawks with 15 kills while adding 12 digs and a team-high three service aces. Henderson followed with 12 kills and a career-high 12 blocks, including four solo blocks and eight block assists.

Caruthers would record 11 kills, three digs and two block assists, while Rosa Lynn Collier contributed nine kills, three block assists and one dig.

Alauna Wilson-Linn added eight kills, eight digs, two block assists and one service ace. Krgovic directed the Chowan offense with 45 assists while also recording nine digs, four block assists, one kill and one service ace.

Anna Holcombe led the Hawks defensively with 18 digs while adding three assists and one service ace.

UP NEXT

The Hawks return to action Saturday, September 12th as they travel to Bristol, Tenn., to face conference opponent King University in a conference match up scheduled for 12:00 PM.
