CU Baseball Splits Twinbill with Indiana U-Pennsylvania

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University baseball team moved to 2-8 on the year after picking up a twinbill split this afternoon against Indiana University-Pennsylvania. Chowan (2-8) battled back to take a 2-1 win over the Crimson Hawks (1-1) in the opening game but were out hit 15 to 2 in a 9-1 loss in the nightcap game. Chowan will host IUP tomorrow afternoon at 12:00pm in another non-conference doubleheader.

After trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning of the first game, Chowan used two runs off of RBI singles to take a 2-1 lead and eventual win. Justin Shockley singled to left field to score Brandon Mack, who reached on a walk earlier in the inning. With two outs freshman Ryan Moore singled to left field to score Colby Wiggins for the go ahead and eventual winning run. 

After knocking in the winning RBI, Moore took the mound to solidify his second save of the season. He threw the final three outs of the game for the save. Brett Garrett got the win in relief. He pitched three innings of no hit ball and struck out two batters. He retired all nine batters faced over those three innings. Ryan Bradshaw started the game, throwing three innings. He ave up one run on two hits and struck out two batters. Chowan tallied four hits in the game with Shockley leading the way with two hits and an RBI. Moore also went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI. 

IUP collected 15 hits en route to a 9-1 night cap win  IUP's Chris Douglas held the Hawks to two hits in the game. John Deschamps pitched the loss for Chowan after throwing the first four innings. He gave up three runs on six hits and struck out four batters. John Morris allowed eight runs on six hits in 2.2 inning pitched and Blake Leebrick closed the game out on the mound. 

IUP's Tyler Mroz was 3-4 with 3 RBI in the nightcap. Vern Powell went 3-3 at plate with a run scored and an RBI. 

The two teams will face off again tomorrow at 12:00pm at Hawkins Field in a doubleheader.
