ROME, G.A. - The Chowan University baseball team suffered a tough 18-13 Conference Carolinas loss on Friday afternoon. The Hawks pounded out 15 hits in the game, led by KJ Durand, Jr. who collected three hits in the afternoon match up.

Matthew Lovitt got the nod on the mound to start the game, getting a five-run lead after the Hawks first at-bat. Lovitt held Shorter scoreless in the first inning, but the home team mounted a comeback in their second at-bat, tying the game at 5-5 after two innings.
With the game tied at 6-6, the Hawks exploded for five runs in the top of the 4th to take an 11-6 lead. Josh Tripp doubled to start the inning's run production. Jacob Howard accounted for two runs with a two RBI single, followed by Ahmaad Goldson, who notched an RBI single.
Shorter exploded for an 8 run 5th inning to get back in the game, and take the eventual 18-13 win.
Six Chowan Hawks collected multiple hit games, led by Durand who went 3-6 at the plate. Goldson collected two hits with a homerun, a stolen base, and a run scored. Derrick Davis, Jordan Turner, Josh Tripp, and Bryson Ponsock each collected two hits in the game. Howard ended the game with a hit and three RBI.
Lovitt started and threw three innings before being relieved by Zach Williams. Kelton Taylor, Tristan Stancil, and Cody Ives saw time in relief as well.

The Hawks will wrap up the series with Shorter on Saturday, April 11th with a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm in Rome, Georgia.
