Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - After dropping the first game of today's doubleheader with Mercyhurst University 11-3, Chowan bounced back with a 3-2 second game win. The Hawks collected 12 hits on the day, led by
Justin Bagbey who finished up 5-6 at the plate. Mercyhurst pounded out 15 hits in the first game to take the 11-3 win while Chowan's pitching in the nightcap held the Lakers to five hits. Chowan moves to 1-1 on the year after today's split. They will wrap up the three-game series with the Lakers with a single, nine inning game on Sunday at 12:00pm.
Ryan Bradshaw pitched 4.0 innings and gave up nine runs on 11 hits for the loss on the mound.
John Morris came in for relief, throwing the last three innings. Morris gave up four hits and two runs and struck out two batters.
Josh Catalano was 3-4 at the plate to lead Chowan while Bagbey finished up 2-3.
Brett Overton was 1-2 with a run scored.
Chowan's pitching combined efforts to help the Hawks to a 3-2 win. John Deschamps started the game, tossing 4.1 innings. Deschamps gave up two runs on four hits before being relieved by
Brett Garrett. Garrett picked up the win after throwing 1.2 innings and striking out two batters.
Ryan Moore picked up the save after coming in to hold off the Lakers in their final at bat.
Chowan picked up a single run in the fourth inning before adding the game-winning runs in the fifth inning. Bagbey led the inning off with a double. Later in the inning
Brandon Mack scored on a passed ball and
Adam Capps collected one of his two RBI after drawing a bases loaded walk and scoring Bagbey. Bagbey ended the day 3-3 and Capps went 2-2 with two runs batted in.
The Hawks (1-1) will host the Lakers on Sunday at Hawkins Field to wrap up the three game series. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm.
