ECSU Edges Hawks in Extra Innings

Box Score MURFREESBORO - The Elizabeth City State University Vikings handed Chowan an 8-7 extra innings, one game loss in what was orginally scheduled to be a conference doubleheader. The Vikings scored a run in the top of the ninth inning off a Hawks fielding error to get ahead 8-7 and take the eventual win. Chowan falls to 4-7-1 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA. ECSU improves to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the CIAA. 

The Vikings used a five-run second inning to get on top of the Hawks 5-0. Justin Shockley doubled to left center to score two runs for Chowan in the bottom of the 3rd inning to cut the Viking lead to 5-2. ECSU scored a run in the 4th inning to spread their lead to 6-2 but Chowan answered in the bottom of the same inning after scoring two runs on a VIking throwing error. 

With a 7-4 lead by the Vikings, Chowan got back to back pinchhit, RBI singles by Nate Mitchell and Nate Stanton to score three runs and force extra innings. 

The error by Chowan in the top of the 9th inning proved to be costly and gave the Vikings the game-winning run. 

Chowan collected 12 hits in the game while the Vikings tallied eight hits. Justin Bagbey and Adam Capps each had two hits for Chowan. Ryan Bradshaw picked up the loss on the mound after throwing 1.1 innings, giving up five runs on four hits, and walking five batters. 

For ECSU, Anthony Hailey picks up the win after pitching in relief of Styron Barfield. Hailey pitched 2.1 innings, giving up three htis and no runs. Billy Kellum was 3-5 with three RBI in the game.
