Featured Hawks: Alauna Wilson-Linn

Every Friday, Chowan Athletics will spotlight select student-athletes and coaches in a series called Featured Hawks. This series highlights Hawks who exemplify excellence in the classroom, in competition, and within the Chowan community. Student-athletes are selected based on their academic achievement, athletic performance, leadership, character, and overall standing with the university. Coaches have the opportunity to share their coaching journey, discuss their programs, and provide insight about their vision for the future.

Fans will learn more about the individual experiences and stories of Chowan student-athletes and coaches as the spotlight series continues throughout the school year, highlighting one individual each week.

Senior Alauna Wilson-Linn is graphics design major and an outside hitter on the Chowan University volleyball team from Statesville, N.C. Since joining the Hawks after transferring from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Wilson-Linn has continued to be a key contributor on the court while also being successful in the classroom. Wilson-Linn recently recorded a career-high 14 kills against Southern Wesleyan on October 9, leading the Hawks offensively in the match. Her performance marked a new career best, surpassing her previous high of 12 kills against Belmont Abbey earlier in the season.

Beyond the volleyball court, Wilson-Linn has distinguished herself through her academic accomplishments and involvement in the Chowan community. In 2026, she received the Doug Eubank Award, which recognizes visual arts students for academic excellence, strong work ethic, high-quality work, and involvement in departmental activities. She also earned Best Visual Display for her graphic design work at the 2025–26 Undergraduate Research Conference.

What has your experience as a Chowan student-athlete meant to you?

My experience as a Chowan student-athlete has meant a lot to me, especially coming in as a transfer student. I was nervous about fitting in, but everyone welcomed me with open arms. My teammates, coach, professors, and athletic training staff all made the adjustment much easier than I anticipated. I had a lot of fun right away.

What do you enjoy most about competing in your sport at Chowan?

What I enjoy most about competing at Chowan is the memories I get to make with my teammates. We always have so much fun and are constantly cheering each other on, whether it's during games or practices. We know how to work hard, but we also have a lot of fun.

How has Chowan University helped prepare you for life after college?

Chowan University has helped me prepare for life after college in many ways. They provide a lot of resources and put on events such as like job fairs, and I've had classes where I get to set up my own LinkedIn account, lots of practical stuff like that. But also, the staff, I feel like, really invest in us as individuals more so than just athletes and students. I think a lot of the staff really takes a personal interest in our lives past college and outside of college, and I really appreciate that.
