Hawks Rally to Take Three Straight in 3-1 Win Over Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, GA – The Chowan University volleyball team collected a 3-1 road win over Young Harris College on Saturday afternoon at The Harp Recreation & Commencement Center. After the Mountain Lions took the opening set, the Hawks responded by taking three straight to improve to 5-12 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Young Harris opened the match with a 25-19 win in the first set before the Hawks battled their way to a 25-23 victory to even the match at one set apiece.

Chowan took control in the third set behind their strongest offensive performance of the afternoon. The Hawks recorded 12 kills for a .476 hitting percentage, taking a 25-17 victory and a 2-1 advantage.

The Hawks carried that same momentum into the fourth set, pulling away from Young Harris to claim the set 25-21 and secure the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Alanna Verme paced the Chowan offense with a match-high 17 kills, six digs, two service aces, one solo block and one block assist.

Taylor Hill recorded seven kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Hill also added one solo block and three block assists.

Rosa Lynn Collier added seven kills and two total blocks, while Madison Henderson finished with six kills, three service aces, and two block assists.

Andrea Krgovic directed the Chowan offense with 40 assists while adding seven digs and three total blocks. Alexa Fricker contributed six kills, eight digs, and a service ace.

Anna Holcombe led the Hawks defensively with 17 digs while also recording three service aces and four assists.

As a team, Chowan finished with 46 kills, 10 service aces, and 14 total blocks.

The Hawks return home on Wednesday, October 7, to host UNC Pembroke at Bob Burke Court in Murfreesboro, N.C. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
