Two Champions Crowned As Hawks Continue Fast Swimming

KINGSPORT, TENN. – The Chowan Men's and Women's Swimming program continued their strong swimming on day two of the Conference Carolinas Championships on Wednesday as several career-best times were posted along with two event champions.

INSIDE THE LANES

Finals

500 Free:

Dimitrije Markovic became the first Champion for the Hawks on the evening shattering his school record time that he posted during the prelims by finishing first overall with a time of 4:36.48.

Lina Danna improved on her prelim time in the event to finish with a time of 5:33.80.

200 IM:

Aleksei Belolipetskii became the two-time Champion in the event with a NCAA "B" standard time in the event by touching the wall with a time of 1:48.88 and broke the Conference Carolinas Championship and Chowan school record.

Ethan Moxey improved on his career-best time in the event with a time of 2:18.40.

Erica Mock and Hiba Laknit improved on their prelim times as Mock finished with a career-best time of 2:16.64 (fourth best in program history), while Laknit posted 2:17.00 (fifth best in program history).

50 Free:

Robert Liz Cabrera grabbed a Second Team All-Conference selection with a school record time of 20.79. Senan Noonan finished fourth with a career-best time of 21.19 (third best in program history). Christian Oleaga improved his career-best time by touching the wall at 22.33 (seventh best in program history).

Ashley Mayes posted a season-best time of 24.23 in the event to finish just off the medal podium with a fourth-place finish. Aislinn Kessinger posted a seventh-place finish with a time of 24.58.

200 Free Relay:

The women grabbed a fifth-place finish in the relay with a time of 1:40.32 as Ashley Mayes, Hiba Laknit, Erica Mock, and Aislinn Kessinger swam for the Hawks.

Huascar Urbina, Ethan Moxey, Christian Oleaga, and Jose Medina grabbed a fifth-place finish for the men with a time of 1:32.23.

Prelims

500 Free:

Dimitrije Markovic posted a school record breaking time of 4:40.88 to qualify second in the event.  Markovic broke the record that stood since the 2019-20 season.

Lina Danna qualified 16th with a time of 5:37.25.

200 IM:

Erica Mock posted a career-best time of 2:18.95,  improving her time by nearly two seconds to qualify 11th overall.

Hiba Laknit touched the wall with a time of 2:19.44 to qualify for the finals.

Aleksei Belolipetskii qualified with the fourth fastest time in the event with a time of 1:54.64.  Ethan Moxey qualified for the finals with a career-best time of 2:20.36.

50 Free:

Aislinn Kessinger (24.56) and Ashley Mayes (24.65) posted qualifying times in the event.  Kessinger improved her career-best time (fourth best in program history).

Olivia Mock (29.03) and Elizabeth Waltz (31.40) posted career-best times.

Robert Liz Cabera posted the second fastest time in the event with a 21.24, while Senan Noonan posted the eighth fastest time in the event with a career-best 21.51 (fourth best in program history).

Christian Oleaga moved to eighth in program history with a career-best swim of 22.38 to qualify for the finals.

Tyler Krom (22.91) and Brayden Conboy (25.92) improved their career-best times in the event.  Huascar Urbina (23.00) and Jose Medina (23.05) missed the cut.

UP NEXT

Day three of the Conference Carolinas Championships will begin at 10am on Friday, February 23.  The Hawks will compete in the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, and 100 Back.
