KINGSPORT, T.N. - The Chowan University men's and women's swimming teams opened competition at the 2026 Conference Carolinas Championships on Wednesday evening with the first six events of the championship meet.
The men's team is currently sitting in 5th place with 63 points and the women sit in 6th place with 38 team points. Chowan entered swimmers into five of the six events in the opening session.

INSIDE THE LANES
Chowan's Emma Rooney got the first swim of the 2026 Conference Carolinas Championship. Rooney finished 7th in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:08.10. On the men's side, Michael Grenier swam to a 12th place finish with a time of 10:26.42
Sara Turanjanin, Vanja Romic, Lina Danna, and Hasnae Idrissi teamed up to finish 6th in the 200 yard medley relay. On the men's side Stefan Reedy, Aleksei Belolipetskii, Dimitrije Markovic, and Robert Liz Cabrera swam to a 4th place finish with a time of 1:34.14.
Stefan Reedy, Michael Grenier, Christopher Goode, and Quintin Mitchell competed in the 800 yard freestyle relay, grabbing a 5th place finish.
UP NEXT
The Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships are just getting underway in Kingsport. Day two action will feature some exciting swimming with some of the conference's best swimmers.
Lina Danna and Dimitrije Markovic will swim first for the Hawks in the 500 yard freestyle with the prelims beginning at 10:00am. Ariana Vizcaya and Vanja Romic will swim in the prelims of the 200 IM on the women's side while two-time Conference Champion and Conference Record Holder, Aleksei Belolipetskii will look to defend his title with another finals run. Belolipetskii set the current conference record in 2024 with a swim of 1:48.88. The 200 IM will get started at 10:33a.m.
Elizabeth Waltz, Sara Taranjanin, and Hasnae Idrissi will swim in the 50 yard freestyle prelims in session two. That session event swim will begin at 10:50 a.m. Robert Liz Cabrera, Stefan Reedy, and Quinton Mitchell will round out session 2 with the men's 50 freestyle. Liz Cabrera has posted some of the fastest times in the league in the event this season. The men's 50 freestyle prelims will begin at 10:54 a.m.
The prelim sessions on Thursday morning set the stage for the finals in the same events. Top finishers from each of the event heats will move on the final sessions. Fans can follow along by logging on the Conference Carolinas website, the Chowan University athletics website, and via social media.
Thursday action will be some of the most exciting events for the conference with the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, and the 50 freestyle. The final session will also feature the 200 freestyle relays for men and women. Final sessions begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
