KINGSPORT, T.N. - The Chowan University swim team continued to chip away at the team scores on Thursday in the afternoon finals session. Chowan freshman swimmer, Vanja Romic, set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke after touching the wall at 1:05.92. Her time was good enough to represent the Hawks on the podium for 3rd place in the event.

INSIDE THE LANES
Emma Rooney opened the final session for the Hawks on the women's side in the 400 IM. Rooney finished up with a time of 4:53.92 for 8th place in the field. CU's Christopher Goode placed 16th in the 100 yard butterfly, marking the Hawks only participant in this event on either side.
Lina Danna finished up in 13th place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.20. After earning a bronze medal in the 500 freestyle a day earlier, Dimitrije Markovic finished just off pace for a podium finish on Thursday. The junior finished with a time of 1:42.47 for a tie for 6th place finish. Michael Grenier and Robert Liz Cabrera finished up 1-2 respectively in the 100 breaststroke B Finals with times of 1:00.20 and 1:00.25. In a tightly contested 100 breaststroke A final, Aleksei Belolipetskii finished just off pace for a podium finish in 4th place. The top four finishers in the race finished just milliseconds between touches.
Sara Turanjanin touched the wall at 59.70 in a closely contested 100 yard backstroke. She finished up in 4th place, just off pace for podium placement. Hasnae Idrissi finished up 13th in the same event with a time of 1:03.99. Stefan Reedy placed 13th in the 100 backstroke on the men's side.
The Hawks women ended the final session with a 6th place 400 IM Relay behind the team of Emma Rooney, Sara Turanjanin, Vanja Romic, and Lina Danna. The quad finished with a time of 4:06.70. The men's quad squad of Stefan Reedy, Aleksei Belolipetskii, Dimitrije Markovic, and Robert Liz Cabrera finished up in 5th place with a time of 3:33.04.

The prelim sessions on Friday morning set the stage for the finals in the same events. Top finishers from each of the event heats will move on the final sessions. Fans can follow along by logging on the Conference Carolinas website, the Chowan University athletics website, and via social media.
The prelims on Friday will begin at 10:00am and feature the 200 backstroke, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, and 100 backstroke, and the 100 backstroke with Sara Turanjanin, Ariana Vizcaya, and Stefan Reedy swimming for the Hawks. The 100 yard freestyle will feature Vanja Romic, Lina Danna, and Elizabeth Waltz on the women's side and Robert Liz Cabrera, Aleksei Belolipetskii, Dimitrije Markovic, Quintin Mitchell, and Christopher Goode swimming for the Hawks men. Michael Grenier will close out Friday's session with the 200 breaststroke.
