MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Chowan Softball coach Ashley Gustafson announced the signing of nine players for the fall of 2022 with six North Carolina recruits.

Haileigh Boone | Pitcher | Anson HS | Wadesboro, N.C.

During her career at Anson HS, Boone has thrown 257.1 innings with a 1.33 ERA, 414 strikeouts and 73 walks to produce a 5.67 K/BB ratio.

Fun Fact: Loves farming and animals

Thoughts on Boone from the coaches: "Haileigh is a naturally gifted pitcher who dominates in the circle with spin and accuracy. She is very hardworking and is a team player."

Kyra Helton | Outfield | Eastern Alamance HS | Elon, N.C.

At Eastern Alamance HS, Helton is a .446 hitter with 18 stolen bases and a .489 on-base percentage.  Helton also played basketball at EAHS.

Thoughts on Helton from the coaches: "Kyra is a threat at the plate and in the outfield.  She will use her speed to dominate."

Hannah Moseley | Outfield | West Carteret HS | Newport, N.C.

While at West Carteret HS, Moseley hit .375 at the plate with 25 stolen bases, while scoring 51 runs.

Fun Fact: Likes to clean for fun

Thoughts on Moseley from the coaches: "Hannah is a highly skilled outfielder with a strong arm and solid bat. She has great game awareness."

Abbie Sutton | Outfield | North Catholic HS | Pittsburgh, Pa.

Last season at North Catholic HS, Sutton hit .422 with eight doubles and two home runs.

Fun Fact: Likes to do hot yoga

Thoughts on Sutton from the coaches: "Abbie is a very polished outfielder who will look to gun down any runner who tries to advance on her.  She can play several positions and is very analytical and hardworking."

Grace Crawford | Catcher | Old Mill HS | Severn, Md.

During the fall season, Crawford hit .300 at the plate with a .400 on-base percentage.

Fun Fact: Loves cows

Thoughts on Crawford from the coaches: "Grace has an extremely strong arm behind the plate. She is hardworking and coachable."

Kendyl Elliott | P/1B | Laney HS | Wilmington, N.C.

In the circle, Elliott has a 2.43 ERA in 132.2 innings at Laney HS.  Elliott is also a .419 hitter with a .507 on-base percentage.

Fun Fact: Works at Dunkin'

Thoughts on Elliott from the coaches: "Kendyl is a huge offensive threat. She hits for both average and power. In the circle she is a movement pitcher that keeps hitters on their toes."

Megan Leon | 2B/Outfield | Rancho Cucamonga HS | Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

Leon hit .356 at the plate while swiping 66 bases at RCHS.

Fun Fact: Loves to paint and read poetry

Thoughts on Leon from the coaches: "Megan is a fundamentally sound player with a high game IQ. She can play anywhere on the field and is great on the bases."

Tessa Nicholson | Infield/Catcher | Whiteville HS | Whiteville, N.C.

At Whiteville HS, Nicholson hit .496 with a .573 on-base percentage with 43 RBI and 51 runs scored.  On the bases, Nicholson swiped 43 bases.  Nicholson also played Basketball and Volleyball at Whiteville.  Nicholson was named 2019 NCHSAA All-State.

Thoughts on Nicholson from the coaches: "Tessa is a raw athletic talent that can play almost anywhere on the field. She is a hard working kid that plays fearlessly."

Kira Soodek | Catcher/2B | Rockingham County HS | Wilmington, N.C.

Helped Rockingham County HS go 11-3 in 2021 while posting a .992 fielding percentage.  Soodek also played Basketball and Volleyball at RCHS.

Fun Fact: Boss at Hay Day

Thoughts on Soodek from the coaches: "Kira is a force to be reckoned with behind the plate. She brings a high game IQ to the table."
