MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University softball team swept Ferrum College in a home doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Hawks would secure game one after Lenita Bryson came through with a game-winning single to right to walk it off and give Chowan the 6-5 victory. The Hawks started game two strong with a renewed energy to defeat the Panthers 5-1 for the straight sweep.
Friday's doubleheader sweep marks the squad's fourth consecutive win.

Game One
Trailing 5-3 heading into their final at-bat, the Hawks clawed their way back into the game to get the 6-5 win after loading the bases up. With the pressure on Ferrum, Alexis Denham drew a bases loaded walk to cut the lead to 5-4. Lenita Bryson entered the box and came up big with a two run single, giving the Hawks the 6-5 come-from-behind win in the final at-bat.
Chowan collected nine hits in the game with Kyra Helton going 3-3. Ava Mizell continued with her hot bat, getting 2 hits and 3 stolen bases. Abby Rutledge picked up the win in relief, running her winning record 8-2 in the circle.
Game Two
Emily Fowler and Rutledge combined efforts on the mound in game two to help secure the nightcap win. Fowler picked up her 5th win of the year after throwing 3.1 innings before Rutledge came in to close the game out, getting her 4th save of the year. Kaitlyn Springle went 3-3 at the plate while Mizell collected two hits and two RBI to go with two stolen bases. Helton also collected two hits in the win.

The Hawks will host Francis Marion University in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 28 with the first game scheduled for a 12:00 PM start time followed by game two at 2:00 PM.
