HAWKS FILES
Chowan will look to start off the 2020 season slightly better than they did in 2019 as the Hawks went 2-1-1 against Coker at home. Chowan finished the year 13-25-1 and a trip to the Conference Carolinas Baseball Tournament.
The Hawks graduated their top-two sluggers from last season, Marquise Lanier and Nick Rose, but has a strong group coming back led by Jack Kane. Kane hit .278 with nine doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBI. Tyler Jones returns after missing most of the season. Jones started out 2019 strong hitting .412 with seven hits, two doubles, and a home run in just seven games.
Wyatt Beakler returns as the ace on the staff tossing 58.1 innings with 47 strikeouts.
CONTROLLING THE COBRAS
Coker finished off 2019 with a 16-28-1 overall record. The Cobras have a new coaching staff but return 19 players from the team a year ago. Grant Thompson returns as one of the team's leading hitters hitting .325 last season with 13 doubles and 20 RBI. Reilly Hall hit .313 with nine doubles, and five home runs.
The Cobras will have to figure out their pitching as the team graduated seven pitchers for a combined 67 appearances and 10 wins, including two back-end of the bullpen guys.
