MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University baseball team opened its final series of the season at home against Belmont Abbey College with a doubleheader on Friday. Senior Matthew Lovitt was recognized between games as a prelude to Saturday's Senior Day, which will honor 11 additional seniors.
The Hawks tallied six hits in game one and followed with seven hits in the second game, while plating a run.

Game One
Chowan held the Crusaders scoreless in the first, sixth, and seventh innings while recording six hits offensively. KJ Durand Jr. notched the first hit of the contest with a single in the opening inning. Jacob Howard added a single through the right side in the third, while Josh Tripp followed with a single in the fourth and advanced to second on a throwing error.
In the seventh, Ahmaad Goldson and Jacob Ellenburg each recorded singles to left center, while Landon Carnley added a single to left field to round out the Hawks' hits.
Matthew Lovitt earned the start on the mound, tossing 3.0 innings before Cody Ives, Ethan Pulas, Terry Cherry, and Christopher Tankersley combined in relief.
Game Two
Tripp got the offense going in game two, leading off with a single in the second inning and swiping second base. Nick Reiss added a single in the fourth, followed by hits from Carnley and Ellenburg in the fifth.
Chowan broke through in the sixth inning as Coley Drew delivered a triple to right field, and Chester Furmanek followed with an RBI single to plate the Hawks' lone run. Derrick Wade added a single to right field to cap the offensive effort.
Ahmaad Goldson got the start on the mound, with Zach Williams, Kelton Taylor, Landon Tyndall, Andrew Sessoms, and Colin Gifford providing relief.
