MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team takes a step out of league play to host UNC Pembroke in the annual Dig Pink contest on Tuesday, October 29.

The Chowan University volleyball team in conjunction with the Chowan athletic department and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host their annual Dig Pink Cancer Awareness Night. Fans are encouraged to wear pink or another color that represents a cancer fight in a show of support.
There will be contests and giveaways over the course of the evening with any dollars raised benefiting the Side-Out Foundation- a foundation started to support cancer research and cancer patients nationwide.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be "pinking" out the lobby of the Helms Center where fans can purchase "pink" items. A nail salon, a photo booth, and other pink activities will be available for fans throughout the match. Students will have a chance to win Hawks Bucks with various contests throughout the match.
In between the second and third sets of the match, Chowan volleyball players will choose random fans who are dressed in pink to participate in a serving contest. Prizes will be awarded to contestants.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan slipped to 4-14 overall on the season after tough losses to Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey over the weekend.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez leads the Hawks with 180 kills this season. Rosa-Martinez has posted seven double-doubles this year. Rosa-Martinez also has 232 digs on the season.
Sydney Hiner is second on the team with 106 kills, while Ann-Marie Johnson (103), and Hannah Sladick (101) have also eclipsed the 100 kill mark.
Katie Houston leads the team with 347 digs on the season. Sydney Hiner is second with 257. Ann-Marie Johnson has notched 48 total blocks this season. Ciara Ortega has notched 461 assists.
AGAINST THE BRAVES
UNC Pembroke is 12-15 on the season and comes off a five set win against Georgia College.
Six Braves have over 100 kills on the season led by Ashley Caesar and Brianna Warren with 180 and 173 kills respectively.
Casey O'Quinn and Morgan Gibbs are the setters with 438 and 374 assists each. Anna Heinz leads the team defensively with 376 digs.
